James H Pyle’s Obituary

Jim Pyle was born in Philadelphia, PA, November 14, 1938 and graduated from Penn State University with a degree in Petroleum & Natural Gas Engineering. While working in the California oil fields he attended Law School at USC in Los Angeles.

His professional career spanned the oil, aviation and telecommunications industries. Principal employers were Conoco, Exxon, RCA and Collins Radio Company. He then formed his own company, Alta Technology Inc. in collaboration with CGE, a large French conglomerate.  After selling that company, he started a business building gasoline dispensing systems.  In each endeavor, he inspired all with his creative marketing and business acumen.

In retirement he took up writing:  first blogs, then short stories (see www.jameshpyle.com) screenplays and finally a great coming of age novel, “The Boatyard” soon to be published.  He also became a gourmet cook (as his wife, Suzanne would say, “By Necessity” since she had decided to go back to work).   Friends were always in awe of the amazing repast Jim would provide at their dinner parties.

Jim’s other pride and joy were his Grand-children.  He took great interest in their well-being and thoroughly enjoyed attending their sports events, birthdays, etc. He would remind them that he left them a great world when he stopped working some 20 years ago and their job was not to “mess” it up!

He died peacefully Dec. 23, 2020.  He leaves behind his wife, Suzanne, his daughter, Debb Pyle, son-in-law Don Madigan, his son Dave Pyle, daughter-in-law Jennifer Pyle, grandchildren Nick & Dylan Pyle, grandsons Joe, Jake and Josh Pyle, step son Taylor Moore, daughter-in-law Stacey and grandchildren Aubrey, Sage and Greyson Moore, step son Derek Moore, daughter-in-law Kristi, grandchildren Rylee and Kellen Moore, and daughter-in-law Cara Rooney Moore and grandchildren Bella, Sophia, Miles and Silas Moore.

There will be a celebration of his life at Missouri Lakes Trail in the Holy Cross Wilderness near Minturn CO when it is safe to travel. For those who wish to make condolences and/or add a memory or tribute, we have added a Condolences page.

There are so many wonderful and happy memories of Jim. He was a unique and special person who was honest and true to himself. We wish we had known him all our lives. He possessed a greater understanding of the community of people and world around us and could articulate this. His writing and blogs were superb as was his ability to project and share his thoughts with others. Memories of Jim in CT – always the gourmet cook from breakfast to dinner. Fun times in Florida and many laughs on the golf course, fishing trips, even if we came back empty handed, and card games – Up and Down the River – which he tolerated! His description of having to climb through the kitchen window somehow having locked himself out of the house. It was a hot summer day, Suzanne was miles away at work, and he had a carful of carefully chosen groceries for a gourmet dinner that evening. It was quite a feat to climb headfirst into the kitchen!
Remembering his dry sense of humor, his love of boats and the boatyard, his understanding of the political situation, his love of Suzanne and his family. The list goes on. We will miss him greatly . He was one of a kind. It was an honor to have known him.
    Rest In Peace Jim. ❤️❤️
