I’m tired of left-leaning editorial and op-ed writers (Is there any other kind?) telling me what a lousy president that we, with Russia’s help, elected last November. Like a creeping migraine, the list of Trump’s negative character traits is never ending: racist, misogynist, sex addict, money-grubber, etc.

Unfortunately, the political system in this country works in a time-honored way that winnows a list of potential candidates during the primary process resulting in a choice between two candidates. At that point, we the people are left with a Sophie’s choice of two (less-than perfect) presidential candidates.

I viewed last years’ election as a choice between a narcissistic ego-maniac with no interest in further enriching himself and a disdain for the ineptitude of Washington vs. a lying, corrupt, self-dealing, screeching woman who, without exception, proved inept at dealing with world problems, either as a carpet-bagging senator or secretary of state.

For me, the choice was clear. Democrats offered up a distasteful candidate. Republicans offered a populist who resonated with middle-America. The result is history.

In the future, Democrats would be better served by identifying and promoting a decent and honest alternative with a progressive CV, rather than continuing to defame Trump on political, not honest issues.

Elitism and bashing the winner is a flawed strategy. The NYT and Washington Post need to get over it and get on with reporting the news instead of attempting to manipulate opinions after the fact.
