This week’s stabbing death and injury at a New York City school was a horrible, and most likely preventable, attack. Bullying and homophobia are cited in most news reports as the cause of the tragedy.

The real culprit is the disastrous academic and social curricula put in place by the city. The name of this school is the URBAN ASSEMBLY SCHOOL FOR WILDLIFE CONSERVATION.   Say what?

One might reasonably ask, “What kind of wildlife exists in the Bronx that is worth conserving?” The answer is obvious – none. This is a school that panders to the lower academic echelon whose children have proven incapable of functioning in a normal class environment. It is a holding cell for kids who could otherwise not fulfill the requirements for a credible high school diploma. They are then graduated into a social and economic community where they quickly learn they have no marketable skills: math, reading, English language and history.

I questioned my conclusion by Googling the school’s website to view the curriculum. Surprise – it is a blank page.

The real perpetrator here is the NY City Schools System, aided and abetted by a feckless city administration. Sadly, the young kid who was bullied and threatened on a daily basis at this school, and eventually could take no more, will be the only one prosecuted.

How sad.
