Today is Flag Day
Orlando’s tragic event should have been the impetus for our chuckleheaded leaders in Congress to put aside their petty bickering and come forth with an intelligent proposal to address the spate of mass murders that continues across the country. But, guess what?
Instead, we get more of the same political correctness from the left, only a few Muslims are bad – the problem is guns; and the same old knee jerk reaction from the right harking back to the second amendment, keep your hands off my guns.
What is wrong with these people?
Don’t they realize that the threat of terrorism is not going away any time soon? Their job should be to keep it from spreading even further; yet they seem clueless about remedies. Instead they busy themselves blaming the other side. The wackos on the religious right blame the gay population. Their left-leaning counterparts blame the NRA. Everyone is guilty – except the Muslim zealots. One wonders if they blame young children for the Newtown massacre.
Somewhere between confiscation of 300 million guns and locking away 3.3 million Muslims, there must be a compromise that will prevent the spread of this cancerous Medieval holy war called jihad. Our children’s and grandchildren’s lives depend on finding a solution.
Sadly, we cannot look to Washington; so once again I thrust my throbbing brain into the maw of this two-pronged dilemma. It will require compromise on the part of our warring legislators. Each side must win some something in order to stop the bloodshed.
- The left is partially correct. We must stop the manufacture and sale of rapid-fire assault weapons. There can be no reasonable purpose for civilians to own these things. Those known to exist should be confiscated. Only the military should have access. I would exclude local police also. (Too many macho characters out there. Employ more sharpshooters.) To all of you hunters: If you can’t kill a deer or antelope with one or two shots – you shouldn’t be hunting. Upland birds have only to worry about two bursts from a shotgun – deer should have the same advantage. Pistols for self defense and hunting/sporting rifles with limited magazines should be exempt. More rigorous enforcement of existing laws concerning gun purchases is also needed.
- Sorry, my liberal friends, but Donald Trump is right about the Muslims. True; we don’t harass other established religions; but then, neither Catholics nor Jews, or even Baptists and Methodists, go around shooting or beheading people of other religious convictions. They have learned tolerance – something many Muslims have not.
The media, and our President, are quick to point out that only a small minority of Muslims are the problem. Really? How big is that small minority? Hundreds? Thousands? More? How many are in the U.S. now? And what are the so-called good Muslims doing to identify and marginalize their radicalized brethren?
Until they do, more reasoned approaches need be employed.
First: as Trump suggests, restrict entry into the U.S. of émigrés from Muslim countries until their background and social/family affiliations can be inspected, cataloged and monitored.
Second: to minimize home-grown radicals, every mosque should be monitored by the FBI and its teachings made public. People living in the vicinity should be encouraged, not discouraged, to report any questionable and/or suspicious actions to local police.
Notwithstanding how many film actors or mayors of cities or even congressional aides or personal advisors to presidential candidates are Muslim; they should not be exempt from scrutiny. Too inconvenient? Too bad. Our county’s very existence is at stake.
P.S. : If you women insist on wearing a niqab or burqa, you cannot obtain a driving license in this country – just as you are not allowed in your own country.
You are welcome.
